It's the first week of May, and the storylines for several sports have just managed to get interesting.
Of course, there are the traditional stories of this month, revolving around the NHL and NBA Playoffs. However, don't let that fool you. There are plenty of other interesting things to keep sports fans entertained if you're not a fan of games played on either ice or hardwood.

This is a sampling of the experiences Citrus College student Eddie Hahn has been through since he started running marathons.

If the San Diego State baseball team was an analogy for life, Stephen Strasburg would be death and taxes. If it was based on "Die Hard," he would be SDSU's equivalent to Sgt. Al Powell. And if he was a truck, he would be a Chevy (if you believe the commercials).

So much happened in the sports world last week that I'm not even writing a lead for this column, I'm just jumping right in. (I can get away with stuff like that because it's the end of the year and my editors probably didn't even read this before print).
First, I should disclose that I am a Lakers fan and therefore might be slightly biased, but I think I speak for everyone when I say that Kobe Bryant being named MVP is the single greatest news America has heard since we found out Bryant Gumbel wouldn't be on NFL Network next season.

Walking up the steps of the Titan Recreation Center, visitors could already hear the echoes coming from the enclosed courts upstairs.
Sitting directly across the newly built courts, earlier participants of the racquetball tournament watched their peers as the players enclosed by the courts dodged the small, blue ball that seemed to ricochet off the walls like a bullet.

I turned on the television the other day to watch some high-quality daytime ESPN programming while I ate lunch, and I was treated to an episode of "Jim Rome is Burning."
What a show.
I caught it in the middle of the forum section, where he brings two random people on the show to talk about sports that they might not necessarily be experts in, and has them go off about it while he smiles and thinks in oddly emphasized syllables.

Every NBA superstar has his own definitive quality that makes him unique to the sport.
But there is one thing that many have in common that has yet to be thought about, but can't go unrecognized.
Michael Jordan, LeBron James, Carmelo Anthony, Tim Duncan, Chris Paul, Brandon Roy, Kobe Bryant, and Julius Irving are just a few examples of my undeniable theory on what it takes to become a star in the association.

The difference between college football and the NFL is the ability to acquire multiple first-round talents every year through the recruiting process, USC coach Pete Carroll said.
That philosophy has turned the Trojans into the game's preeminent power, with six straight Pac-10 titles, six straight BCS bowl berths, three Heisman Trophy recipients and two national championships.

Vikings shortstop Rose Vargas' walk-off double broke the stalemate with the L.A. Mission Eagles earning her team a 2-1 victory in the Southern California Regional Playoffs Saturday, May 3 at the LAC Softball Field.
Largely a pitchers dual for most of the contest, the Vikings' portion of the seventh inning was helped along by a few lucky bounces courtesy of the Eagles' gloves.
The Vikes got off to a quick start in the inning when designated player Majella Friel, fell behind in the count 0-2, before she recovered and was walked.
Next, after Jessica Amador flied out to center, Raelene Saldana blasted a pitch up the middle that was deflected off Eagles reliever Alyson Salas' glove allowing Friel to reach second and Saldana first base, as the ball slowly rolled toward third base.
